Everything you need to know about scooter inner tubes

Inner tubes are typically made of rubber and are designed to be inserted into the wheels of your scooter to absorb shocks and vibrations when you ride on rough surfaces.

Maintaining and changing your inner tube

It is important to regularly check the condition of your inner tubes and replace them as needed to ensure safe riding and maintain the performance of your electric scooter. If you notice that your scooter is struggling to roll or the pressure is dropping abnormally, you may need to replace the inner tube.

Choosing the right inner tube for your scooter

There are different types of inner tubes for electric scooters, suitable for different models and brands of scooter. Two parameters must be taken into account:
  • Size of the inner tube (expressed in inches or millimeters)
  • Orientation of the valve (angled or straight and its position relative to the axis)
We explain everything in detail below. Note: Some scooters do not have inner tubes. It will then be marked "Tubeless" on the side of your tire.

Dimensions of inner tubes

The sizes of inner tubes for electric scooters are generally indicated in inches (American standard) or millimeters (French standard). They determine the size of the wheel for which they are designed.

American standards in inches

Example: The mention "8 1/2 X 2" on a scooter inner tube corresponds to the size of the inner tube, indicated in inches.
It means that the inner tube has a width of 8 1/2 inches (8.5 inches) and a diameter of 2 inches. The width of the inner tube corresponds to the distance measured between the outer sides of the inner tube when it is slightly inflated. It must be adapted to the width of the scooter wheel so that the inner tube can be correctly installed. The diameter of the inner tube corresponds to the distance measured through the center of the inner tube when it is slightly inflated. It must be adapted to the diameter of the scooter wheel so that the inner tube can be correctly installed.

French standard in millimeters

Example: The mention "200 x 50" on a scooter inner tube corresponds to the size of the inner tube, indicated in millimeters.
It means that the inner tube has a width of 200 millimeters (20 centimeters) and a diameter of 50 millimeters (5 centimeters). The width of the inner tube corresponds to the distance measured between the outer sides of the inner tube when it is inflated. It must be adapted to the width of the scooter wheel so that the inner tube can be correctly installed. The diameter of the inner tube corresponds to the distance measured through the center of the inner tube when it is inflated. It must be adapted to the diameter of the scooter wheel so that the inner tube can be correctly installed.
