Complete guide to replace the front tyre and the inner tube – SpeedTrott ST16
To change the tire of your SpeedTrott ST16, start by loosening the left locknut on the wheel using a 17mm wrench.
Unscrew the two screws that hold the brake caliper using a 5mm Allen wrench. Set the brake caliper aside.
Strike the wheel axle to push it out from the other side of the front fork. Use a hammer/mallet and a long, relatively thin tool (pin punch or Allen wrench, for example). This is the most challenging step of this repair and requires some strength, patience, and precision.
Remove the brake disc by unscrewing the 6 screws of the brake disc using a 4mm Allen wrench. This will allow you to work much more easily and without the risk of bending the disc.
Apply some liquid soap between the tire and the rim.
Press firmly on the edges of the tire to detach it from the rim. This will prevent the tire from getting stuck in the rim during disassembly.
Turn the front wheel over and also apply some liquid soap, making sure to press on the edges of the tire.
Remove the valve cap from your punctured inner tube.
Place a tire lever to the left of the valve and another one to the right.
Apply leverage to remove the first part of the tire from the rim. Then, remove the entire first part by going around with a metal tire lever for electric scooters.
Push the valve of the punctured inner tube inside the rim using an Allen wrench.
Grab the valve of the inner tube and pull it to remove it from the tire.
Insert a tire lever between the rim and the tire and fully remove the tire using leverage.
Check the rotation direction of your new tire 10×2.50. There’s nothing more frustrating than realizing that you’ve mounted your tire the wrong way, so double-check the rotation direction of your tire before installing it on the wheel.
Apply liquid soap to the edges of your tire and the rim.
Insert the first part of the rim inside the tire and press this part with your hand. Then, snap the rest of the tire into the rim using your tire levers. Finish with the valve of the inner tube.
Take your new inner tube with a 90° angled valve. You can remove the small black cap and any valve nuts.
Push the tire inside the rim, squeeze the tire at the valve hole, and slide the valve into its housing. Note: orient the valve to the side without the brake disc.
Slide the inner tube inside the rim, being careful not to let it come out on either side.
Apply some soap around your new ST16 tire.
Start by placing the first part of the tire inside the rim and press this part with your hand. Then, fit the remaining part of the tire into the rim using tire levers. Finish with the inner tube’s valve.
Check that your repair is properly done by overinflating the tire to 2.8 bars. Replace your valve nut and cap.
Tire pressure for SpeedTrott ST16 = between 2.38 and 2.48 bars (as indicated in the user manual).
Remount your brake disc, also ensuring its rotation direction (use the arrow engraved on it as a guide).
All that’s left is to reassemble your wheel onto the front fork, and you will have successfully changed the tire and inner tube of your SpeedTrott ST16 yourself!
