Steps to change your wheelbarrow tyre correctly

PART A - DISASSEMBLY

Step 1: Remove the wheel from your wheelbarrow

  • Put your wheelbarrow on its back.
  • Remove the wheel by unscrewing the two screws on the left and right of the axle.
  • Lift the wheel to remove it.

Step 2: Remove the first side of the tyre

  • Ensure there is no air left in the tyre.
  • From the valve side, remove the first part of the tyre by going around the wheel with tyre levers for wheelbarrows or flathead screwdrivers.
  • Feel free to apply a few drops of liquid soap on the edges to facilitate the tyre's sliding.

Step 3: Remove the inner tube

  • Push the valve of the inner tube inside the rim with a thin object.
  • Grab the inner tube inside the tyre.
  • Pull it out of the wheel.

Step 4: Remove the second side of the tyre

  • Place the lower part of the tyre in the rim's groove.
  • Then push the upper part of the tyre outwards.
  • Gradually press on the sides of the tyre to remove it.

Step 5: Analyse the condition of your tyre

Check the condition of your tyre and inner tube.

Are they still in good condition? Cracked? Too worn?

After analysis, choose from these three options:

  1. Change both the tyre and the inner tube.
  2. Keep your old tyre and install a new inner tube.
  3. Change nothing and repair your inner tube with a patch.

PART B - REASSEMBLY

Step 6: Install the first side of the tyre

  • Place the rim above the tyre.
  • Apply soap around the rim so that it slides easily into the tyre.
  • Go around the wheel with a tyre lever while pushing your rim downwards.

*Tip: insert the side of the rim with the valve hole first.

Step 7: Put the inner tube into the tyre

  • Press the tyre at the valve hole and install the inner tube valve into its housing.
  • Place the inner tube into the tyre ensuring that no part is sticking out of the rim to avoid pinching it during reassembly.

Step 8: Install the second side of the tyre

  • Push the lower part of the tyre into the rim's groove.
  • Press the sides of the tyre upward toward the valve.
  • When it starts to get difficult:
Apply a bit of soap around the tyre bead.
Finish the installation using a tyre lever.

Step 9: Inflate your wheelbarrow tyre

Inflating wheelbarrow wheel

Inflate your tyre with a simple pump or compressor.

The recommended maximum pressure is always indicated on the side of your tyre.

*Generally, a wheelbarrow tyre pressure is around 30 PSI, or about 2 bars.

Step 10: Put the wheel back on your wheelbarrow

Put the wheel back on the fork of your wheelbarrow.

Tighten everything with your screws.

Your tyre is now repaired, ready to tackle new jobs!
