Preparation for MPK85 solid tire installation

After removing your old tires, here are the steps we recommend you follow.
First, boil some water.
Then, immerse your solid tires in hot water for 10-15 minutes. This will soften the tire rubber all the way to the center, making installation easier.

Next, set up a chair to ensure stability and comfort. Prepare the following items next to you:

  • liquid soap
  • tire levers

We want to emphasize that there are different ways to mount a solid tire, and here we are showing you the method we believe to be the best, most efficient, and the one we use at MoovMoov. However, feel free to use your preferred method. In any case, it requires some force, and we are here to show you that with the right technique and tools, it can be done.

Here, we will start with the installation on the rear wheel.
Take your solid tire and remove any excess water.

Apply a few drops of soap to the inner surface of the tire, the edges of the rim, and the flat edges of your tire levers. You can dry your hands to prevent slipping.

Check the direction of rotation of the tire, ensuring that the lines point toward the front of the scooter.

Place the rear wheel inside the solid tire and position your feet on the motor to prevent it from moving.

Slide your tire levers between the rim and the tire, levering them while pushing down with your feet on the wheel. With this technique, the solid tire will slide upward and fit into place on the wheel.

Here, I was fortunate, and the tire fit perfectly into the rim on the first try. You will see that installing the tire on the front wheel will be less smooth. If you have someone next to you, it’s easier to ask for their help.

Now let’s move on to the front wheel, and the procedure is exactly the same. Lubricate the rim, the inside of the tire, and the tips of your tools with soap.

Here, the tire didn’t fit perfectly around the wheel. To center it, insert a tire lever between the tire and the rim, and lift it slightly to make it slide and lock into the grooves.

Tips and Conclusion

In this tutorial, we installed MPK85 solid tires. We find these tires to be excellent because they don’t wear out quickly, and they have hollow structures, making them lighter and more flexible than other tires.

We also used Hercules tire levers, which, based on our experience, are our preferred and most reliable tools for changing and installing scooter tires without feeling frustrated.

However, if you have a tight budget and don’t want to invest in high-quality tools, you can still use long flathead screwdrivers. We have tried them before, and they work, but it’s less easy. Just be cautious because there is a risk of them breaking or bending, which would require buying new ones.
